Kids & Teens

A first routine, from about age 9–10.

Young skin needs very little: a gentle cleanse, a light moisturizer and sunscreen every morning. Started early, those three steps become a habit — and they are the best footing for the breakouts the teen years often bring.

Painful, deep or cystic breakouts, acne that leaves scars, or any skin concern in a younger child should be seen by a pediatrician or a board-certified dermatologist.

The first routine

  1. 01

    Cleanse, morning and night

A gentle facial cleanser and lukewarm water, after school and sport too. Thirty seconds is enough; scrubbing harder does not clean better.

  2. 02

    Moisturize lightly

A light, non-greasy moisturizer such as Organic MSE 3 keeps young skin comfortable without clogging pores.

  3. 03

    Sunscreen every morning

A broad-spectrum mineral SPF on the face, ears and neck before school, reapplied outdoors every two hours.

  4. 04

    Keep it short

Three steps is a whole routine at this age. Fewer products means fewer chances for a reaction, and a habit that sticks.

Teen breakouts

  1. 01

    Gentle and consistent

Breakouts in the teen years follow hormones and oil. Cleansing twice a day, every day, does more than any harsh product used now and then.

  2. 02

    Hands off

Picking and squeezing push inflammation deeper and leave marks behind. Extractions belong in the treatment room.

  3. 03

    Still moisturize

Stripped skin answers with more oil. A light moisturizer belongs in an oily-skin routine too.

  4. 04

    Pillowcases, phones and hats

Whatever touches the face daily carries oil and bacteria to it. Change pillowcases often and wipe phone screens.

Nastran reads the skin herself, assessing type, condition, and past reactions, then sets out what to do about it: which treatments, which formulas, and in what order.
