Sensitive Skin

Sensitive is a description, not a diagnosis: skin that stings, flushes or tightens more readily than it should. The barrier is usually the weak point, so the work is to disturb it less and support it more.

Redness, burning or flaking that does not settle can be rosacea or dermatitis, and is worth a dermatologist’s eye.

What helps

  1. 01

    Patch test everything new

A little along the jawline or inside the forearm, for a couple of days, before it goes on the whole face.

  2. 02

    Fewer steps

Every product is another chance to react. A short routine your skin tolerates beats a long one it does not.

  3. 03

    Go gently

Lukewarm water, soft cloths, no rough scrubs. Pat the skin dry.

  4. 04

    Protect it daily

Mineral sunscreens are generally better tolerated by reactive skin than chemical filters.
